Reinforcing Global Health Security Agenda, GSSHealth Facilitates MOH-MOD Laboratory Biosafety Workshop in Togo

From July 31 to August 4, 2017 in Lomé, Togo, GSSHealth facilitated a laboratory biosafety and biosecurity (BS&S) training that was co-sponsored by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and US Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP) with support from the Togolese Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Defense (MOD).

"DHAPP funded GSSHealth to implement a major program of improvement and accreditation of medical laboratories at the two largest [Togolese military health] facilities, Lomé and Kara. And already many processes have been improved."

Gaps in HIV Laboratory Test Services Hamper Global Public Health Efforts to Fight Pandemic

In a study published in August 2016, researchers found glaring gaps in HIV laboratory test services in over 100 countries, exposing a global public health issue that requires immediate action. The study, co-authored by GSSHealth, identified opportunities to improve laboratory test services to meet global public health targets.

GSSHealth Global Health Security Agenda Success Stories: Benin and Togo

Launched in 2014, the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) is a worldwide collaboration among countries, international organizations, and private and public stakeholders to promote global health and security through the timely prevention, detection and response to infectious disease threats.

 

Promoting global health as a key component of international security, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) works with national stakeholders and implementing partner GSSHealth in Benin and Togo to prevent outbreaks through biosafety and biosecurity promotion; detect dangerous pathogens by bolstering timely disease diagnosis, data reporting and surveillance; and respond to threats by strengthening health service quality and emergency preparedness.
